Transport minister R Ashok, on Thursday, said all new autorickshaws registering in the City will be environment-friendly (green).

Installing environment-friendly engine run on LPG and tamper-proof electronic metres and sporting green colour are mandatory for new autos, he added.

NEW DELHI: Seeking to expand the reach of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to remote areas in the country, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry has laid down a firm road map for the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) that would entail the release of 5.5 crore LPG connections by 2015 and the setting up of small LPG distribution agencies.

The state transport department is planning to allow registered autorickshaws without permits to ply on existing routes or on ones where three-wheelers have been operating illegally to hasten their switch to LPG.

Around 30,000 autorickshaws in Calcutta, Howrah and North and South 24-Parganas are registered with the transport authorities but have not been allotted permits.
