Poor farmers across Manipur have sought help from the State Government in view of the drought-like situation in the State following poor monsoon rainfall.

Most of the paddy fields in the State have gone dry due to scarcity of water. The effort to fill in by pumping water from the nearby water sources like river could not be implemented owing to the poor economic condition of the farmers.

IMPHAL, June 29: Mass participation for making the state pollution free was sought by various delegates attending the 20th foundation day celebration of the Manipur Pollution Control Board at its office premises at Lamphelpat, Imphal today.

The celebration started with the lighting of inaugural lamp by MLA, E Dwijamani Singh, chairman of the Manipur Pollution Control Board.

Manipur State Government departments have earmarked financial resources to tackle a possible drought-like situation in the State. The cost of combating drought is estimated at Rs 4.41 crore to be spent by the agriculture department while the minor irrigation department is expected to spend about Rs 1.5 crore. The agriculture department has a total of approximately four lakh hectares of land.
