Stone crushing sector is an important industrial sector engaged in producing crushed stone of various sizes depending upon the requirement which acts as raw material for various construction activities.

The Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2023 was taken up for consideration and passed by the Lok Sabha on on 28.7.2023. This bill proposes to empower the Central government to exclusively auction mining lease and composite licence for 26 critical minerals in the country.

India has proposed opening up offshore mining or deep-sea mining of non-atomic minerals or poly-metallic nodules to private companies. Production leases are to be granted only through competitive bidding.

The Mines and Mineral (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill 2023 was introduced in the Lok Sabha on July 26, 2023. The Bill proposes to omit at least six previously mentioned atomic minerals from a list of 12 which cannot be commercially mined.

The grievance in the application is against illegal mining, taking place in periphery of Keoladeo National Park in Rajasthan near Dholpur, close to National Chambal Sanctuary (NCS) which is a habitat of rare species of animals particularly Gharial, roofed turtles and also river dolphins.

Illegal mining remains a significant concern in Chhattisgarh, as highlighted in the Comptroller and Auditor General of India's (CAG) Audit Report on mining of minor minerals tabled in the state legislative assembly on July 21, 2023.

Issue raised in the application was illegal mining by M/s Ultimate Group, tehsil Gannaur, district Sonipat, Haryana. Gautam Sharma, resident of village Haji Mohammadpur Kotkadar, tehsil Nagina, district Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh through his letter petition complained that illegal mining of sand and murram was being done in the area of river Khoh.
