A country is dependent on the export of commodities (or “commodity-dependent”) when its merchandise exports are heavily concentrated on primary commodities.

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has issued draft Environmental Guidelines for Stone Crushing Units. These Guidelines were issued on 20th June, 2023.

Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board report in compliance of directions issued by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) vide order dated April 19, 2023.

The matter is related to illegal mining near river Ken, district Banda, Uttar Pradesh.

The nominated joint committee members carried out field visits around the mining place in village Amlorkhadar and village Khapatiha. The leasehold area in village Amlorkhadar was not found operational while the lease hold area in village Khapatiha, tehsil Pailani was found operational.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Kuldeep Singh Rathore Vs State of Rajasthan dated 24/05/2023.

The matter related to illegal mining being carried out by M/s Maa Durga stone crusher Chadwas, Bidasar, Churu who was granted mining lease over an area of one hectare but it has spread over its mining activities on seven hectare of land. Despite several complaints to the authorities, no action has been taken and illegal mining causing damage to the environment is still continuing.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Pradeep Kumar Singh Vs State of Jharkhand & Others dated 22/05/2023.

The matter is related to stone and sand mining on hundreds of acres in hills of mauja Gadaun in district Sahebganj, Jharkhand for the last 25 years causing damage to the environment,posing risk to the life of villagers, depleting ground water level. The applicant, Pradeep Kumar Singh has also submitted that the blasting activities carried out have also caused damage to the houses.

Judgment of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Suo motu action in illegal mining for excavation of morrum at Araji no 824 kha in area 16.194 and 12.368 hectares respectively at village Agori Khas, tehsil Obra, district Sonbhadra.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Mamta Chourasia & Others Vs State of Uttarakhand dated 10/05/2023.

Grievance in the application is against violation of environmental norms by stone crushers and mining units in village Saimalchor and Pattapani, post Belpadav, district Nainital, Uttarakhand, resulting in creating deep ditches and degradation of the environment.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Kailash Singh & Others Vs State of Uttarakhand dated 09/05/2023.

Grievance in the application is against illegal mining at village Sorag, tehsil Kapkot, district Bageshwar. It is stated that in the course of such illegal mining, blasting is also done which affects the safety of the houses in the area, about 4000 standing trees, water course and grazing land.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Jahangir Vs State of Haryana dated 08/05/2023. Grievance in the application is against unscientific and illegal mining by M/s Star Mines, Saharanpur, obstructing the flow of Yamuna river. It was stated that fifteen Pokland machines are working day and night causing damage to the environment, including air pollution. Though lease was for mining of the
area in Saharanpur district in Uttar Pradesh, the lessee has been undertaking illegal mining in village Belgarh in Haryana also.

Report filed by the Revenue Divisional Officer, Bandar in the matter of Kotari Muralidhar Babu Vs State of Andhra Pradesh dated 01/05/2023.

The matter related to illegal mining of soil and sand in Kappaladoddi village of Guduru mandal, Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh.

The Tahsildar, Guduru have stopped 6 vehicles altogether in the year 2022 while transporting busaka (a mix of sand and alluvium) and fines imposed. In addition, the Tahsildar, Guduru has furnished the details of landowners/pattadars and their addresses for taking further action against the illegal mining.
