India plans to launch its own satellite to monitor greenhouse emissions and the government has already discussed the proposal with Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chief G Madhavan Nair and his predecessor K Kasturirangan, Environment & Forests Minister Jairam Ramesh told the Rajya Sabha today.

In A move that will come as a major relief to states, environment minister Jairam Ramesh stressed on the primacy of states in compulsory afforestation efforts.
