Kohima, May 16: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has sanctioned financial assistance of Rs 78.57 crore to the state to support 37 new rural infrastructure projects.

The Government of India through “Ministry for the Development of North-Eastern Region” (DoNER) has initiated the “North East Rural Livelihoods Project” for four north-eastern States (Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura) of India.

Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDONER) has taken up the North East Rural Livelihood Project (NERLP) with the support of the World Bank in the States of Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura to assist the rural poor and vulnerable groups including women in improving their livelihood.

Nagaland appeared to have sprung a surprise by registering a negative population growth - minus 0.47 per cent , implying its population has decreased since last count.

This was, however, easily explained from the fact that the base figure was unreliable.

Kohima, March 24: Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio today presented a deficit budget of Rs 602.30 crore.

Rio said the current transaction of the coming year 2011-12 is estimated to result in a negative balance of Rs 0.86 crore.
