Dharamsala: Another case of alleged corruption in the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) has come to the fore. In Masroor village panchayat, the names of schoolchildren have appeared on the muster rolls of development works carried out under NREGA. Interestingly the school children have appeared in the board examinations and worked under NREGA, simultaneously as per the records.

Only 14 per cent job card holding households have got employment under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act in the financial year 2009-10 till date in Assam, out of which 69 per cent families got less than 20 days employment till the end of December 2009.

The government of India has shifted from cash payment of wages under the renamed Mahatma Gandhi Employment Guarantee Scheme to settlement through bank accounts.
