Health care facilities in the tea gardens of Assam are set to receive a major boost with the Government launching a private-public participation scheme under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) to improve the condition of the hospitals of the gardens.

Union Health Minister Dr Ambhumani Ramadoss has stated that Rs 13 crore has been allocated to the State government to attend health needs of the State, as part of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).

The National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in association with the district administration and the Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) will implement a unique SAFE I- Project, said District Collector M Beena at a press conference here on Friday.

The novel project aims at bringing down hospital-borne infections by ensuring safe injection and thereby decreasing iatrogenic diseases.

National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) proposes to bring down child and mother mortality rates.

Child mortality rate stands at 44 per thousand (within one year) and 40 per thousand (within one month) while mother mortality rules at 228 per one lakh in the district. The NRHM plans to bring down these rates significantly.
