In a move that is likely to boost rural healthcare facility in Assam, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Anbumani Ramadoss will hand over mobile phones to Auxiliary Nursing Midwifes (ANMs) at Guwahati on Tuesday. The occasion is convention of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) that gets underway on July 8. The event would see Director of National Rural Health Mission GC Chaturvedi signing an MoU with Emergency Management and Research Institute, an emergency management service operating in the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev has agreed to impart yoga training to 5.4 lakh Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) recruited under the government's flagship National Rural Health Mission (NRHM). This was decided at a meeting between Baba Ramdev and Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Anbumani Ramadoss on Tuesday. While the procedural details will be worked out later, Baba Ramdev has agreed to send experts to all villages to train ASHAs in yoga who, in turn, will conduct yoga classes for the people.

The Central Government-appointed Community Based Monitoring (CBM) Project under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) has come out with a preliminary report on the functioning of health care infrastructure in rural Thane. CBM project is a key to acquiring health rights for the rural population. It was started in April 2007 in five districts of Maharashtra including Thane rural. The report will be discussed with government officials in a public hearing at the zilla parishad level.
