The Directorate of revenue Intelligence has seized a record over 2.4 lakh kg of ozone-depleting restricted refrigeration gas ‘R-22’, which was being smuggled into the country.

The comprehensive road map for phasing out hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) in various sectors as per the reduction targets of Montreal Protocol released by the Ministry of Environment and Forests. India plans to cut the use of the HCFCs by 10 per cent by 2015 and then to zero by 2030.

These rules may be called The Ozone Depleting Substances (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000. They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.
