Shillong, Aug 2 (IANS): Once a power surplus State, Meghalaya today has earned the dubious distinction of having the highest electricity deficit in the country at 32 percent.

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) bagged the national award for outstanding achievement in management of power by supplying uninterrupted power to all 18,000 villages under Jyotigram Yojna.

LUCKNOW: Around 7,400 electricity consumers in Lucknow got registered under the Self Load Declaration Scheme, which was initiated by UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL). Total load which was enhanced in the process stood at 13,067 Kw.

Tripping of the circuits of a 400-Kv Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) power line early this morning resulted in reduced power generation in the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) and Northeastern Hydroelectric Power Corporation

Due to monsoon rains in the state during the last two days, the power demand has come down to 5000 megawatts from 5800 megawatts. At present, 4200 megawatt power is available to meet the demand.

In what could close the doors for import of Chinese equipment in power transmission, state-run Power Grid Corporation is making it mandatory for suppliers to have manufacturing facilities in India within three years. The company's board is likely to approve the proposal in its meeting on July 2.

Generally, 'Nav Tapa' (the 9 hottest days) ends on 4th or 5th June and by June 10 the monsoon enters the state. But, this year, monsoon is yet to come. Looking into the delay of monsoon the energy department, anticipating such a situation three months ago, had instructed the Madhya Pradesh Power Trading Company and Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company to prepare disaster management work plan.
