A Human chain was formed at Rupganj of Narayanganj district on Sunday last protesting against the pollution of Balu river water and quicken the work of the bridge over the river.

"Sarbaik Manab Unnayan Shangathan" organized the human chain at the Kayetpara rivr bank. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nahid Sultana Mallick.

A parliamentary body yesterday expressed concern over river pollution and asked the industries and environment ministries to take immediate measures to save the rivers, especially the Buriganga, Turag, Balu and the Shitalakhya, from pollution.

JOWAI: Concerned over the illegal killing of fish in rivers in Saipung area, the Jaintia Youth Federation, Saipung Circle in its Circle Executive Council held recently decided to ban the use of dynamites and any other chemicals in the rivers for killing fish.

The JYF-Saipung Circle has also warned any individual or group of persons who failed to abide by the prohibition.

The illegal sand mining is being carried out unabated in Cauvery river thus polluting the water and affecting the aquatic life.
