New Delhi: Congress chief Sonia Gandhi has a job at hand to save her imprimatur on the rural job scheme.

The Centre has released a sum of Rs 55.54 crore to the States of Assam, Bihar and Rajasthan under the pilot project of the Centrally-sponsored Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMAGY).

The implementation of the pilot scheme was approved in March this year for integrated development of 1,000 villages in the country, each with more than 50 per cent Scheduled Castes (SC) population.

In what could trigger resentment among the rural population, the Planning Commission is open to the suggestion of the Rural Development Ministry on tolling rural roads to ensure their upkeep.

BHUBANESWAR: The National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) will be implemented in the state soon. This was decided at a highlevel meeting presided over by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here today. The NRLM aims at addressing poverty and alleviating rural poverty by 2015.

The scheme also targets to cover 50 percent of the rural households by self help groups (SHGs) during the next three years.

With a view to compulsorily enlisting participation of the Panchayati Raj Institutions in implementation of the flagship schemes, the Union Rural Development Ministry has advised the State Governments to seek approval of the labour budget of NREGS for the ongoing fiscal from all the gram sabhas, panchayat samities and zila parishads in their jurisdiction.

The National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) came into existence after the enactment of the Parliament Act 'National Rural Employment Guarantee Act' (2005) in September 2005. The primary objective of the scheme is to provide 100 days of guaranteed wage employment in a financial year to every household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work.

Convergence between any two schemes is a mutually beneficial proposition. That is why joint guidelines were issued by the Ministry of Environment and Forests and Ministry of Rural Development on January 9, 2009, to usher in convergence efficiently and effectively.
