This Report of the Public Accounts Committee deals with the Action Taken by the Government on the Observations and Recommendations of the Committee contained in their Eighth Report (16th Lok Sabha) on "Water Pollution in India" based on the C&AG Report No.21 of 2011-12, Union Government for the year ended March, 2012 relating to the Ministry

Order of the Allahabad High Court in the matter of Public Interest Litigation (PIL) No. 4003 of 2006 on Ganga pollution.

An affidavit filed by the District Magistrate, Prayagraj stated that as per current status report, all STPs are functional and all parameters are within range.

The affidavit filed by the Uttar Pradesh Control Board stated that the water of river Ganga was not fit for drinking purpose but fit for bathing purpose. A test analysis report of January 27, 2021 regarding the quality of water was also annexed with the affidavit.

Affidavit of compliance on behalf of the Government of NCT of Delhi in response to the National Green Tribunal dated July 7, 2020. The matter related to control of pollution and rejuvenation of river Yamuna in Delhi.

Joint Committee report in respect of Original Application No. 48 of 2020 taken up Suo Motu based on the news item published in Dinamalar newspaper of February 26, 2020 on sewage in Buckingham Canal, Chennai. The NGT in its order of February 28, 2020 directed the constitution of a Joint Committee to inspect the area in question and submit a factual and action taken report.

Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of Delhi Jal Board Vs The State of Haryana & Others dated 13/01/2021.

The present petition related to increased ammonia levels in Yamuna due to discharge of pollutants and on a larger level to river pollution in India. The SC observed that either the sewage is not treated through a sewage treatment plant before being discharged or the treatment plants are not functional or incpacitated.

Judgement of the National Green Tribunal (Southern Zone, Chennai) in the matter of V. Sankara Subramanian Vs Union of India & Others dated 13/01/2021.

The matter related to a building project in an area having an extent of 10.87 acres in Vedapatti village, Coimbatore south taluk, Coimbatore district under the name Golden City. The proposal was to construct 1356 flats of various sizes. It is alleged that the construction of the project started even before the grant of Environment Clearance.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Meera Shukla Vs Municipal Corporation, Gorakhpur & Others dated 12/01/2021.

The issue for consideration is the remedial action for contamination of water bodies and ground water, specially Ramgarh Lake, Ami River, Rapti River and Rohani River in and around District Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. The matter has been pending for the last more than six years.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Joydeep Mukherjee Vs Union of India & Others dated 06/01/2021. The matter related to the delay in completing the STP and sewerage network project for Siliguri, West Bengal.

Updated report of Oversight Committee in compliance to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order passed in Original Application No. 116/2014 in the matter of Meera Shukla Vs Municipal Corporation, Gorakhpur & Others - regarding remedial action for contamination of water bodies and groundwater specially Ramgarh lake, Ami river, Rapti river and Rohani river in and around district Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.
