Alipurduar, Sept. 21: An outbreak of the foot and mouth disease among cattle in the villages on the fringes of Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary even after vaccination has left foresters worried about wild herbivores catching the infection.

Bullock carts in the neighbouring Bihar roll with timber collected and transported illegally from the forests of north Bengal, mostly in the Dooars.

The Baikunthapur forest division last week conducted a couple of raids in the areas near Siliguri and Odlabari in Jalpaiguri district and recovered teak and sal timber worth around Rs 10 lakh and arrested two persons.
