In exercise of the powers conferred by section 55 of the Special Economic Zones Act, 2005 (28 of 2005), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules. These rules may be called the Special Economic Zones Rules, 2006.

An Act to provide for the establishment, development and management of the Special Economic Zones for the promotion of exports and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. This act extends to the whole of India.

NEW DELHI: With the Central Government clearly shifting focus to renewable sources of energy to meet the future energy requirements, the Government has proposed that all special economic zones (SEZs) should meet at least 25 per cent of their lighting needs through solar energy, a move aimed at making optimum use of green energy in such labour and power intensive zones.

New Delhi: In a quiet move for greening its rapid industrialisation plan, the government is making it mandatory for all SEZs (special economic zones) to power at least a quarter of their lighting needs with solar energy. The government also wants at least half of the lighting requirements for billboards to be solar-powered. TNN

The draft guidelines on green SEZs introduced by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. Has elaborated on optimization of use of energy, power, water consumption, plantation in the project, ventilation, internal roads, waste management, site restoration and preservation, etc. All new & existing SEZs must implement these green guidelines and go for green certification.
