DANISH FIRM IN INDIA: A S Velfrost, a US $200-million Danish freezer and deep freezer manufacturer, is considering India as a possible manufacturing base, its first outside Denmark. According to executives, a deal is being negotiated with Blue Star India for a joint venture. However, the plans have not taken off yet because neither companies have found market conditions encouraging. "We would like to have a production unit with a minimum capacity of one lakh units per annum,' said Ole Miller Jensen, sales director of the Danish firm.

India is all set to give its consent for an inter-governmental agreement on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) pipeline, which will be signed in Turkmenistan at a summit meet next week.

NEW DELHI: India and Turkmenistan on Tuesday discussed energy cooperation and signed several agreements signalling the desire of both countries to strengthen bilateral ties.

Pakistan and Turkmenistan have signed a protocol wherein the two countries agreed to speed up the project for supply of gas from Turkmenistan to Pakistan. In addition to this, the Turkmenistan government has also offered export of electricity to Pakistan.

Pakistan faces gas price issue with Turkmenistan regarding Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project as Turkmenistan has shown reluctance to export gas below $11.4 per million British thermal unit (MMBTU).

A month after his Turkmenistan visit, which began on Friday, India could formally become a member of the proposed gas pipeline running through Afghanistan and Pakistan before reaching Fazilka on the Indian side.
