Pune, August 13 Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) officials need no longer shuttle between Delhi and Pune for review meetings on the progress of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) projects.
The last review meeting on Tuesday saw PCMC and JNNURM officials on a video-conference for the first time. Both Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Asheesh Sharma and Pune Municipal Commissioner Praveensinh Pardeshi attended the meeting.

Slum dwellers will soon be part of a year-long survey covering nearly 15000 villages and blocks in urban centres. A well-equipped multi-story residential complex would be built under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission for the slum dwellers to be removed from Govindpura industrial area. The building would be constructed by Bhopal Municipal Corporation. This decision was taken at a meeting convened for redressing problems prevailing in Govindpura industrial area. The meeting was chaired by Industry Minister Malaiya. Commercial Taxes Minister Babulal Gaur and Mayor Sunil Sood were also present.

The much-publicised housing project for the poor under the Basic Services for Urban Poor (BSUP) projects is coming up in Thane city. The twin projects involve the construction of several ground plus seven to eight storey buildings to house around 850 families in the city as well as from Kausa for the urban poor citizens of Thane. The said project is coming up at an open plot of land belonging to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) at Tulsidham and will provide homes to around 500 poor citizens.
