CANACONA, JULY 4 - Though the solution to the garbage problem in rural Canacona is at miniature stage, it has received a boost in four villages with the taluka's BDO forwarding land acquisition proposals to the Directorate of Panchayats. According to sources, better days are ahead for the residents from Agonda, Loliem-Polem, Gaondongrim and Poinguinim on garbage disposal front. Canacona BDO has taken up the lands earmarked by the local bodies under the Rural Garbage Disposal Scheme 2005 for acquisition process.

MARGAO, JUNE 30 - Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has moved the Sub-divisional Magistrate, Margao for a permanent order against dumping of garbage and waste at the Sonsodo dumpyard. The MLA has filed a petition in the Court of the Sub-divisional Magistrate, praying that for a stop to garbage dumping by the mmc. In his petition, he drew attention of the Court that the Sonsodo dump yard has turned out a nuisance to people residing in and around the dump yard with the Civic body failing to treat the waste in a scientific manner and under the Garbage management rules.

Pune June 29 The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has expressed concern over the poor response from the information technology (IT) companies to address the problem of electronic waste being generated in the city despite efforts made by the civic body. "The PMC has initiated steps to tackle the e-waste problem, but there is not much response from the IT companies," Ajay Ojha, PMC Environment Cell, in-charge, said at a meeting with representatives of 200 IT companies organised recently by city-based NGO Sarathi.
