The scientific fraternity has made a renewed pitch for a nuclear power plant in West Bengal where the demand for power has been steadily rising.

The 10,000-MW nuclear power projects at seven sites, including Haripur in East Midnapore, has been approved by Centre and the work of setting up the reactors can be started very soon with the help of Russia, said Mr Srikumar Banerjee, chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission today.

Pune: Suzlon Energy Ltd (SEL) signed of a new order with Kolkata-based Techno Electric Group for over 202.2 MW wind power projects for approximately Rs 1,149 crore. This order is part of a the agreement of 500 MW signed with Suzlon as the preferred supplier.

KOLKATA, 18, Aug: The private bus and taxi owners will inform the state government about their decision regarding the transport strike shortly.

The state transport minister Mr Ranjit Kundu today met leaders of taxi and bus owners to discuss the matter.

The state government on Monday doubled the subsidy on diesel for buses, minibuses and taxis to Rs 2 per litre and lifted the cap on the total subsidy offered to each transport operator.

For a taxi, up to 20 litres of diesel was being subsidised per day. The limit for buses and minibuses was 50 litres.
