Order of the National Green Tribunal (Eastern Zone Bench, Kolkata) in the matter of Subhas Datta Vs Ministry of Railways & Others dated 10/08/2017 regarding waste management of the Howrah Railway Station. WBPCB had submitted its report of inspection of the Howrah Railway Station. The report contained several inadequacies in the management of the railway station and recommendations were made by the Board for the railway to take steps for setting those right.

Order of the National Green Tribunal (Eastern Zone Bench, Kolkata) in the matter of Bishnu Prasad Mishro Vs State of Odisha & Others dated 21/08/2017 regarding fly ash brick units operating without clearance Ganjam District, Odisha. Counsel representing the fly ash brick units has sought permission to sell the existing stock of fly ash bricks produced by them prior to passing of the interim order dated 24.4.2017 undertaking that they shall not manufacture such bricks before obtaining NOC from the Central Ground Water Authority. NGT has agreed to the request.

Order of the National Green Tribunal (Eastern Zone Bench, Kolkata) in the matter of West Bengal Pollution Control Board Vs Joydeep Mukherjee dated 21/07/2017. The West Bengal Pollution control Board, has prayed for an order approving the proposed compressive plan for utilisation of the money deposited as penalty with the State Board. It is submitted that this pertain to only 7 districts viz. North 24 Parganas, Howrah, Paschim Midnapur, Bankura, Purulia, Burdwan and Birbhum. The total amount proposed to be utilised is Rs. 20,08,37,500.

Order of the National Green Tribunal (Eastern Zone Bench, Kolkata) in the matter of Manjhi Parganas Abhen Baisi Vs Aligarh Muslim University, Kishanganj, Bihar & Others dated 21/07/2017 regarding the proposed construction of a centre of Aligarh Muslim University on the bank of river Mahananda in Kishanganj District in the State of Bihar. It is alleged that out of 224.02 acres of land transferred to the University for the purpose by the Govt., most of it falls on the river bed and flood plains of Mahananda river. NGT directs notice to be issued to the Respondents.

Order of the National Green Tribunal (Eastern Zone Bench, Kolkata) in the matter of Shyamal Kumar Mondal Vs West Bengal Pollution Control Board & Others dated 21/07/2017 regarding industrial units manufacturing galvanised materials and chemicals on the Diamond Harbour Road near villages Ganesh Khariberia (Bagirhat) and Purba Khariberia. It is alleged that the industrial units discharge untreated water into the canals and emit smoke causing air and water pollution in the area.

Order of the National Green Tribunal (Eastern Zone Bench, Kolkata) in the matter of Takam Xavier Vs. Union of India & Others dated 18/07/2017 regarding running of a ferro alloy manufacturing unit in village Lakhi Happa in the district of Papumpare in the State of Arunachal Pradesh without obtaining environmental clearance as required under EIA Notification, 2006. It is also alleged that the unit discharges untreated affluent into rivers Pachin and Kankar which flow in the vicinity of the unit resulting in those being contaminated.

Order of the National Green Tribunal (Eastern Zone Bench, Kolkata) in the matter of Subrato Mookherjee Vs West Bengal Pollution Control Board & Others dated 17/07/2017 regarding bio-medical waste management of hospitals in Kolkata, West Bengal.

NGT grants the erring hospitals a final opportunity to comply with the pollution norms as recommended by the State PCB within three months. This shall include obtaining authorisations, consents to operate and completion of ETPS.
