This is the twelfth report of the Standing Committee on Coal and Steel on the subject “Modernisation and Expansion of Steel Sector” relating to the Ministry of Steel.

The Global Water Partnership (GWP) and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) held a workshop of policymakers and international and regional experts working on the South Asian region in Colombo, Sri Lanka, 23–24 February to explore new ways of promoting ‘out-of-the box’ thinking about the region’s food and water security issues.

Piloting an ETS will enable the Ministry of Environment & Forests to cap total pollution emissions in select areas and increase regulatory transparency and accountability. The pilot emissions trading scheme will be rolled out as a randomized-controlled trial to enable rigorous evaluation.

The State Board has issued detailed guidelines from time to time to facilitate the process of grant of consent to establish/consent to operate and also to suitably guide/advice the stone crushing industry for taking appropriate measures for abatement of pollution.

This Act may be called the Animal Welfare Act, 2011. The Ministry of Environment and Forests invites comments on the Draft Animal Welfare Act, 2011. This legislation, which will replace the existing Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960, will provide for enhanced penalties and clearer definitions of animal abuse.

Recently there have been some newspaper reports that the Ministry of Environment & Forests is flouting the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act in tiger reserves and in the critical wildlife habitats.  Such reports are false and misleading and as someone who has taken the lead in ensuring the proper and full implementation of FRA, 20
