Dode et al (2011) report an apparent increase in "accumulated incident rates" of cancer deaths in residents living within 500 m from a cellular base station. This report has provoked considerable discussion by the public and media, if not by health agencies themselves. This letter calls attention to major weaknesses in the study that prevent any conclusions about possible health effects from living near a cellular base station.

Radiation emitted from Cell Phones, Cell phone towers, Wi-Fi, TV and FM towers, microwave ovens, etc. are called
Electromagnetic radiations (EMR). EMR causes significant health hazards (biological effects) on human, animals, birds, plants and environment.

International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a part of WHO designates cell phones as "possible human carcinogen” [Class 2B] Found evidence of increase in glioma and acoustic neuroma brain cancer for mobile phone

Report on Workshop on “Testing and Compliance for EMF in the Mobile Industry” on Feb. 7, 2012 and International Health Conference on “Ensuring Public Health and Safety in the Mobile Industry” on Feb. 8, 2012 Organized by ASSOCHAM at New Delhi.

This study estimates the benefits that Indian farmers derive from market and weather information delivered to their mobile phones by a commercial service called Reuters Market Light (RML). We conduct a controlled randomized experiment in 100 villages of Maharashtra. Treated farmers associate RML information with a number of decisions they have made, and we find some evidence that treatment affected spatial arbitrage and crop grading. But the magnitude of these effects is small.

There is no clear evidence in the existing scientific literature that the use of mobile telephones poses a long-term public health hazard (although the possibility of a small risk cannot be ruled out).

The Telecom Ministry has rejected a proposal to ban setting up of mobile towers near schools and hospitals.

Power frequency electromagnetic fields (EMF) are generated in the production, transport, distribution and use of electricity.

The radio frequency sources in India are the transmitting towers such as AM, FM radio towers, TV towers, Cell phone towers, etc. emit radio frequency/ microwave radiation continuously.

Mobile is a rapidly growing and potentially major element of the future Internet, and its environment cannot be sensibly considered in isolation from fixed networks. A note on terminology: Europe uses the term Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) while the United States uses ‘wireless’ Internet Service Providers (ISPs). ‘Wireless’ is somewhat more open in the United States. In Europe, mobile has always made special pleading for forms of self-regulation, as we will see.
