A fire that broke out in a forest in northern region of Panna district, about 15km from the tiger reserve, on Thursday is threatening the forest cover and wildlife.

BHOPAL: The Centre has sanctioned Rs 28 crore for Kamla Park flyover and Rs 27 crore for the completion of the BRTS construction work, including the Habibganj rail over-bridge, a government spokesperson said on Thursday.

In all, Rs 192 crore was sanctioned after a meeting of urban administration and development minister Babulal Gaur and Union urban development minister Kamalnath in New Delhi on Thursday. Kamalnath sanctioned four schemes worth Rs 192 crore for Bhopal's development. Gaur also discussed pending JNNURM projects of Indore and Jabalpur. Kamalnath said the city development projects would also be sanctioned soon, according to the spokesperson.

BHOPAL: Union government continues to short-change gas victims and favour interests of Dow Chemical Company (Dow), alleged NGOs working for the Bhopal gas victims, realising a new set of documents from WikiLeaks 'Kissinger Cables' at a press conference here on Wednesday.

Citing extracts from leaked cables the activists said union minister Kamal Nath and planning commission deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia welcomed Dow investments in India and contradicted the Government of India's stated position on Dow's liabilities in India.

MANDLA: Tiger corridors and its habitat around famous Kanha National Park is threatened by unabated mining of dolomite in Mandla district of Madhya Pradesh- located 466 km south-east of Bhopal. Mining has reached to areas about 0 meters from the forest limits in some cases, said sources.

Mandla has one of the best quality dolomite reserves in the country and several mining companies are active in the area. While the forest department wants immediate closure of nearly 60 mines operating in the region, administrative officials have turned a blind eye to the proposal terming that mining operations will continue till expiry of lease. Mining permissions were issued before the new forest conservation Act came into force, say officers in the mining department.

BHOPAL: The Public Health Engineering Department has completed 621 drinking water schemes sanctioned under Bundelkhand package so far at a cost of Rs 21.29 crore.

Total 1287 drinking water schemes costing about Rs 100 crore were sanctioned to 6 districts under Bundelkhand package, including Sagar, Chhatarpur, Panna, Tikamgarh, Damoh and Datia. Public Health Engineering Minister GaurishankarBisen has directed departmental officers to complete under-construction schemes under the package at the earliest.

BHOPAL: National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has pumped Rs 7,881 crores during 2012-13 into the state's rural economy to boost crop production, capital formation and improving rural infrastructure, according to a release.

NABARD boosted the rural economy through financial support to banks for ensuring enhanced crop loans, investment credit and creation of rural infrastructure by the state through RIDF funding support.
