A team of international researchers has found that chemicals released when petrol and other fuels are burnt weaken the heart's ability to pump effectively and can lead to irregular heart beats raising the chance of strokes. According to the study, the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) found in oil and petrol facilitate body fluid to build up, causing arrhythmia or heart beat abnormalities that can increase the risk of strokes.

Canberra: As many as 30 million people are tipped to switch off lights and televisions around the world to help fight climate change with 24 cities joining Earth Hour on March 29, environment group WWF said on Wednesday. Following last year's Earth Hour in Australia, where 2.2 million Sydneysiders powered-down for an hour, cities including Atlanta, San Francisco, Bangkok, Ottawa, Dublin, Vancouver, Montreal and Phoenix have also signed on, WWF said.

20-60% Stars Can Give Rise To Life-Supporting Planets Boston (Massachusetts): Planets resembling Earth can be found orbiting many Sun-like stars in our galaxy, increasing the prospects of finding extraterrestial life on some of them, according to a study released on Sunday. University of Arizona astronomer Michael Meyer, working with Nasa's Spitzer space telescope, said his research shows that between 20% and 60% of stars similar to our Sun have conditions favorable for forming rocky planets like Earth.

It is putting into place a plan to measure its carbon footprint, reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and figure out how much can the group possibly earn from carbon credits. Spearheading this initiative at the group is Tata Sons' director JJ Irani. Under him, a 10-member committee comprising top executives from various Tata group companies has been set up. Says Irani,
