This policy is intended to help in rejuvenating the agriculture sector of Orissa and bringing lasting improvement in the economic condition of the farmers. M/s Vedanta Aluminium Limited has established a refinery plant of capacity to produce 1 MTPA aluminia. The plant comprises of two alumina production streams of capacity 0.5 MTPA each and three steam generation plants. The steam generation plants not only cater the requirement of steam for production of Alumina from bauxite by also electricity of 75 MW is generated for plant uses.

The population of Orissa is 4% of that of the country, according to 2001 census. The State has 11% of the water resources of the country. The per-capita availability of water in 2001 was 3359 m.
