This policy is intended to help in rejuvenating the agriculture sector of Orissa and bringing lasting improvement in the economic condition of the farmers. An integrated implementation of the intentions of the Government would definitely achieve the targeted annual growth rate of 4 per cent during the Eleventh Five Year Plan and ensure food and nutritional security to all the citizens of the State.
M/s Vedanta Aluminium Limited has established a refinery plant of capacity to produce 1 MTPA aluminia. The plant comprises of two alumina production streams of capacity 0.5 MTPA each and three steam generation plants. The steam generation plants not only cater the requirement of steam for production of Alumina from bauxite by also electricity of 75 MW is generated for plant uses.
The industry has not taken adequate steps on the problems identified by the Board Officials during their visit to the industry from 2nd to 4th, Nov., 2007. It has also not complied to the points specified in Show Cause Notice and Directions issued by the Board. Some more problems like seepage/leakage from Dirty Water Pond, adjacent to Vanshadhara River have been identified.
Water is replenishable but finite resource. The annual overall availability of surface water in Orissa is about 85.59 billion m. The population of Orissa is 4% of that of the country, according to 2001 census. The State has 11% of the water resources of the country. The per-capita availability of water in 2001 was 3359 m. By 2051, it is likely to reduce to 2218 m . With increasing population and the consequential increase in demand for food and water and with the growth in mining and industrial activities, the demand for water from various sectors is likely to increase to 55 billion m.
