Diseases such as Cholera, Acute Diarrhoeal Diseases (Dysentery and Diarrhea), Enteric Fever (Typhoid) and Viral Hepatitis A & E are caused by consumption of contaminated drinking water. State/UT wise details of number of cases and deaths reported due to these diseases during 2014-16 as per data compiled by the Central Bureau of Health Intelligence (CBHI) are indicated in Annexure I.

As per National Cancer Registry Program (NCRP) data, there has been an increase in estimated incidence of cancer cases of all sites including breast and cervical cancer and related deaths in the country. The estimated number of cases and related deaths due to cancer, including breast and cervical cancer, reported during the last three years, State/UT wise is at Annexure I to VI.
Question raised in Lok Sabha on Water-related Diseases, 09/03/2017. There are 9.25 lakh private drinking water sources which interalia include both open well and tube well) in rural India as reported by the States into the online Integrated Management Information System of the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation. Since bacteriological contamination is highly dynamic in nature, the data on percentage of private unsafe wells is not maintained at the Central level by the Ministry.
Question raised in Lok Sabha on Sewage Generation, 09/03/2017. The increase in quantum of sewage is not attributed to construction of more toilets across the country under Swachh Bharat Mission. Sewage is one which is flowing through network sewers. It may go to treatment facility or disposed elsewhere with or without treatment.
Question raised in Lok Sabha on Sanitation Standard, 09/03/2017. The Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) (SBM-G) entails freedom from open defecation and management of solid and liquid waste. The SBM-G guidelines also provide setting up systems for scientific disposal of waste.
Question raised in Lok Sabha on Registered and Illegal Mines, 09/03/2017. The details of working mines registered with IBM as on 28.02.2017 in the country, statewise are given at Annexure-I. The details of instances of illegal mining reported in various parts of the country submitted by the state governments to IBM and the action taken by State Governments during 2014-15 to 2015-16 are given at Annexure-II and Annexure-III.
Question raised in Lok Sabha on Reforms in Mining Sector, 09/03/2017. Reforms in the mining sector were brought about by amending the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) (MMDR) Act, 1957 through the MMDR Amendment Ordinance, 2015 which was promulgated on 12th January, 2015.
Question raised in Lok Sabha on Inter-Linking of Rivers, 09/03/2017. Regarding potentiality of Waterways, Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) declared River Brahmaputra in Assam as National Waterway -2 in 1988. IWAI undertakes various river conservancy works including hydrographic surveys in order to maintain the targeted depth, provide navigational aids and terminal facilities with cargo handling infrastructure to facilitate IWT. 20 rivers in the North Eastern region have been declared as national waterways.
