Itanagar: While Chief Minister Nabam Tuki sounded a red alarm on the deteriorating flood situation with unabated flood fury by nonstop heavy downpour, Bordumsa ADC Kento Riba has sought helicopter service to rescue about 300 people marooned in Vijaypur-III village in Bordumsa circle of Changlang district since midnight of June 23 after swollen Noa-Dehing river tore apart the village into two breaking its embankment.

Itanagar: Flood situation continued to remain grim in Arunachal Pradesh with reports of fresh areas being inundated by flood water on Tuesday in several districts of the State.

The situation is worst in Anjaw, Lohit, Changlang, Dibang Valley, East Siang and Upper Siang districts of the State with all the major rivers and their tributaries were in high spate and flowing above the red mark.

The KSK group company, Kameng Dam Hydro Power Pvt Ltd, is working on the 420-MW hydel power project, which has already been relocated once.

Itanagar: The flood situation in Arunachal Pradesh continued to remain grim for the second day today with most of the rivers and their tributaries are in high spate and flowing above the danger level.

The worst affected districts in the State’s first wave of flood are Changlang, Lohit and Dibang Valley, according to official reports. At least 75 families of Chakma refugees remained trapped in flood water since Sunday as the turbulent river has rendered the right side of the village inaccessible.

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh on Monday launched the National Food Security Mission (NFSM), a flagship programme of the UPA government, to ensure food security for all.

With the launching of the project by Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandary and Dairy Development Minister Setong Sena, Arunachal has become the second Northeastern state to do so after Assam to launch the project.

The National Hydro-electric Power Corporation (NHPC) has obtained concurrence of CEA (Central Elelctricty Authority) for 600 MW Tawang-I and 800 MW Tawang-II Projects in Arunachal Pradesh.

Itanagar: Several organizations from Siang Valley in Arunachal Pradesh have asked Chief Minister Nabam Tuki to scrap the 2700 MW Lower Siang hydro-electric project proposal putting a moratorium and review of all the Hydro-electric projects in Siang basin.

The organizations including Adi Students’ Union (AdiSU), Siang Peoples Forum (SPF), Forum for Siang Dialogue (FSD), Nyiko Bachao Forum (NBF), Dam Affected People of Sirit-Siyom Banggo (DAPSSB), Mebo Area Bachao Committee (MABC), Siang Bachao Federation (SBF) and Yamne-Duyon Banggo Students Union (YDBSU), in a joint memorandum to the chief minister yesterday reiterated their demand of no dams on Siang river.

Government today dismissed reports that Brahmaputra river in Arunachal Pradesh has dried up and said that its average monthly flow has been better than the previous years.

In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Water Resources Vincent H Pala said, “There is no evidence that Brahmaputra river had dried up in the state recently.
