GUWAHATI: Days are not far when arable lands in Assam will be scarce. At a time when food crisis is a global phenomenon due to rise in population, and the emphasis worldwide is on using more and more lands for agricultural purposes in order to meet the rising food requirement, the area of agricultural lands in Assam is on the decline. This is indeed an ominous signal for a State where the bulk of the population is dependent on agriculture.
