This Appeal seeks to assail Environmental Clearance (EC) April 9, 2020 granted by the MoEF&CC in favour of M/s. Oil India Ltd. (OIL) for the proposed onshore oil & gas development drilling and production in Mechaki area covering Mechaki, Mechaki Extension, Baghjan and Tinsukia Extension PMLs in district Tinsukia, Assam by OIL.

The matter related to blowout at well No. 5 in OIL India's Baghjan field, Assam in June 2020. After the incident of blowout, several bunds were constructed around the area of the blowout to arrest the spilled oil flowing to the nearby water bodies. The oil arrested inside the bundhs were picked up by manual efforts in drums and transferred to EPS-Baghjan. Turbo pumps driven by water jets were also used for lifting spilled oil.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Rohit Chowdhury Vs Union of India & Others dated 11/02/2020 regarding identification of sites for setting up of the Integrated Solid Waste Management Facility and the issue pertaining to protection of elephant corridor by Northern alignment of the railway track outside Deepor Beel Wildlife Sanctuary.

The NGT directed the state of Assam to expeditiously complete the task of removing hydrophytes from the Deeport Beel and for issuing notification declaring Eco-Sensitive Zone of Deepor Beel Wildlife Sanctuary within one month.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Rohit Chowdhury Vs Union of India & Others dated 19/08/2019. The issues discussed were shifting of the solid waste mangement plant near Deepor Beel and encroachment of the wetland, Guwahati, Assam.
