Jaisalmer: The habitats of thousands of chinkaras, cobras, desert fox, cats and other beasts are likely to be severely affected if the proposed refinery is set up in Lelana area of Barmer, according to the forest department. The HPCL, which will set up the refinery, will be sending a special team to study the eco system of the area in December and prepare a report for the Centre.

Jaipur: The pollution control board would keep an eye on pollution level in nine cities of the state on Tuesday.

Among the nine cities are Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bhiwadi, Alwar, Udaipur, Pali, Kota, Bhilwara and Bikaner. The department would send the report on pollution to district collectors, department of environment, ministry of environment and forests, police commissioners and superintendents of police, said an official of Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB).

International Atomic Energy Association’s (IAEA) 12-member operational safety review team (OSART) would complete on Wednesday its operational safety performance of 3&4 units of Rajasthan Atomic Power Stations (RAPS). This is IAEA’s 171 st OSART review across the globe since the programme´s inception in 1982 and first of any nuclear power plant in India.

Jaipur: The vibrant colours and light produced by firecrackers are nothing but result of metal and chemical combustion. Once a rocket or sparkler is burnt, it produces dust of metals and chemicals that remain suspended for long time causing serious health aliments.

City doctors claimed that people inhale air with partially combusted low volatile organic compounds which remain present in the air for many days. The Hazardous Chemical Act does not allow use of these metals as they are poisonous.

JAIPUR: A division bench of the high court while disposing of a PIL concerning heavy vehicular traffic at B-2 bypass on Friday directed the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) to complete the BRTS corridor and open it to public in the next six months.

The bench of Chief Justice Arun Mishra and Justice N K Jain-senior further directed JDA to complete the outer ring road project in the next two years to ease heavy vehicular traffic movement from B-2 bypass. The bench directed that the disputes regarding taking over of the possession of land acquired for ring road project should be expedited and completed within three months.

JAIPUR: Raising doubts over the inspection by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) at Rajasthan Atomic Power Station (RAPS) in Rawatbhata, anti-nuclear activists on Friday demanded safety examination by an independent body. Coalition for Nuclear Disarmament and Peace (CNDP) and People's Union of Civil Liberties (PUCL) claimed that the exercise is a mere eyewash and power generation through nuclear plants is hazardous for people.

The activists fear that the IAEA will give clean chit to Rawatbhata nuclear plant where implementation of proper safety measures is still under a cloud.

Jaipur: A Central government study conducted earlier this year concluded that not a single firecracker available in the market was within the prescribed noise level limits set by the Supreme Court.

A test of 846 firecrackers made by 144 manufacturers in Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu – the hub of firecracker production in the country – showed that the minimum noise level these firecrackers generated was 120 decibels (dB) against the Supreme Court-mandated 105dB for a string of crackers. The noise limit for a single cracker is 125dB. The maximum noise these tested firecrackers generated was 146.8dB.

The Rajasthan Construction Labourer Welfare Board on Thursday decided to implement the national health insurance scheme for the unorganised sector workers and announced that it would pay a major portion of the premium to connect stakeholders with the scheme and encourage them to get insured.

Minister of State for Labour Mangilal Garasia, who presided over the Board’s meeting here, said a scheme announced last year for reimbursement of medical expenses on treatment of serious diseases would continue to be operative under the national health insurance scheme.

Alwar/Jaipur: ACB raids in Alwar have once again exposed a close nexus of illegal miners with the men in uniform and district administration.

The Rajasthan State Petroleum Corporation Limited (RSPCL) signed a joint venture agreement with GAIL Gas Limited here on Monday for laying a natural gas supply pipeline in the State and formulation of a long-term action plan for domestic, commercial and industrial consumption of gas.

RSPCL Managing Director Ajitabh Sharma and GAIL Gas Limited Chief Executive Officer J. Vasan signed the agreement in the presence of State Chief Secretary C. K. Mathew.
