CHANDIGARH: The state of Punjab, which has the lowest forest cover and percentage of land under green cover in the country, is finally taking initiatives to better its position.

For various developmental activities in the country, permission for diversion of the forest is granted by the Central Government under Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980.
