Agriculture Minister Mullakkara Ratnakaran has said that earth-regenerating farming systems should be developed in the State.

He was addressing a meeting at Pazhuvil, near here, on Monday to launch a 10-year project drawn up by the Kerala Agricultural University and State Forest Department for the protection of biodiversity of kole lands.

New Delhi: The Union environment and forests ministry on Monday extended the moratorium on environmental clearances to new projects in the coastal Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts of Maharashtra up to June 2011.

In mid-August, the ministry had imposed a four-month moratorium on entertaining any new project for mandatory environmental clearance which expired at the end of 2010.

Plantation owners' strategy draws flak

PALAKKAD: Four environmental organisations have demanded that the State government and the Forest Department take stern action against some plantation owners who were trying to destroy the fragile ecology and environment of the Nelliampathy forest area in Palakkad district.
