The early stages of biological invasions are rarely observed, but can provide significant insight into the invasion process as well as the influence vectors have on invasion success or failure.

Mediterranean-type ecosystems constitute one of the rarest terrestrial biomes and yet they are extraordinarily biodiverse. Home to over 250 million people, the five regions where these ecosystems are found have climate and coastal conditions that make them highly desirable human habitats.

New Delhi: The Union environment and forests ministry on Monday extended the moratorium on environmental clearances to new projects in the coastal Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts of Maharashtra up to June 2011.

In mid-August, the ministry had imposed a four-month moratorium on entertaining any new project for mandatory environmental clearance which expired at the end of 2010.
