Tirupur: As much as 3.06 lakh doses of vaccine have arrived to curtail the foot and mouth disease prevalent in the district, which had already taken away life of 16 cattle in the last 10 days ending Saturday.
Official sources told The Hindu that the vaccines were brought following the confirmation of the cattle's deathwhich took place in Dharapuram revenue division.

Bhubaneswar: Eminent animal rights activist and BJP MP Maneka Gandhi on Monday urged the people to raise their voice against the rampant smuggling of cattle in Odisha.
Inaugurating the 68th Goastami Utsav of Asureswar Gorakhyani, Maneka said that while the people of Odisha are very peace-loving and kindhearted, cattle smuggling to West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh from here is increasing.
SALEPUR: Animal rights activist Maneka Gandhi today urged people to raise voice against rampant smuggling of cattle. Inaugurating the 68th Gostastami Utsav of Asureswar Gorakshani here, Maneka said cattle smuggling from Orissa to West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh is on the rise.
"The way in which the cows are being transported and then slaughtered is heartbreaking.
The Himachal government on Sunday announced to enact a law to punish those who leave their animals on the road. Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said the crime would be defined as a cognizable offence as per the new law that is under active consideration. He said the law would also have provisions of fine and other punitive punishment.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA India) has welcomed the move and said that it will give much-needed relief to the exploited animals.
