On media reports that Goa would have to pay compensation to the notified SEZs for the Centre to de-notify them, GPCC chief and South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha said the government would pay but the question is how much. He asserted that compensation should not be paid for works undertaken by the SEZ promoters where they didn't obtain approvals. Why should Goa pay for works, which have no approvals, he asked.

The SEZ Virodhi Manch has reiterated that no compensation whatsoever should be paid by the government to the SEZ promoters, saying the Board of approvals have violated SEZ rules in hastily approving the notifying the SEZ. Welcoming the government decision of revoking the land allotted for SEZ purpose by the GIDC and claiming it to be a victory of the people, the Manch prayed that there is no hidden agenda in the decision and that the government stays with the people in the same manner till the land is finally revoked officially and the three notified SEZs are denotified.

The evacuees of the project also demanded that the government pay the compensation on par with the price being paid to the victims of Indirasagar Multi-purpose Irrigation Project.

Aarti Dhar NEW DELHI: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on "denial' of compensation promised by the Centre after the floods that affected 2.5 crore people last year. The relief work was executed with the State's own resources and it was expected that the Centre would provide assistance in due course. "Since the due assistance is being denied on wrong premises, it does not augur well for a healthy Centre-State relationship,' Mr. Kumar has said.

The state unit of All India Youth Federation (AIYF) has alleged widespread irregularities in the various projects of the forest department. The Joint Secretary of the AIYF state unit, Subhash Dutta, said that there were numerous instances of misappropriation of funds by the department.
