CDP’s new analysis of corporate disclosure on forest-related risks has been published, revealing that more than 1,000 companies are now disclosing relevant data.

The NGT, July 5 directed a joint committee to look into the matter of trees being cut while widening the road from 60 feet to 80 feet from village Hawala Khurd to Shilp Gram, Udaipur, Rajasthan.

Taking into consideration a petition filed against illegal axing of trees in Ludhiana, the National Green Tribunal vide order, March 17, 2023 directed the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (HoFF), Punjab to look into the matter and take remedial action and file an action taken report to the court within two months.

A committee was constituted under the Chairmanship of Chief Conservator of Forest (Plains), Punjab. The committee submitted its report to the NGT, June 1, 2023.

Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of In Re: T N Godavarman Thirumulpad Vs Union of India & Others dated 17/05/2023 regarding forest fires in the state of Uttarakhand.

The present application has been filed with the following prayers:

1. Permit the state government to maintain fire lines in forest areas in forests of Uttarakhand even if it ordains felling of green trees

Estimating emissions and removals from forest degradation is important, though challenging, for many countries. Where forest degradation is a major source of emissions, governments want to cover it when reporting on their mitigation efforts. However, estimating emissions from forest degradation is hard.

Rejoinder on behalf of Aravalli Bachao Citizens Movement Vs Union of India & Others dated 27/04/2023.

The rejoinder was to the affidavit of the Chief Secretary, Haryana (dated April 12, 2023), Mines and Geology Department, government of Haryana (April 11, 2023), affidavit of Haryana Pollution Control Board (March 10, 2023) and affidavit of Director General of Police (April 12, 2023).

Aravalli Bachao Citizens Movement had filed the application regarding illegal sand and stone mining happening in several locations of the Aravalli range in Haryana.

Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of Bombay Environmental Action Group Vs National Highways Authority of India & Others dated 24/04/2023.

The matter related to felling of mangrove trees for the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway. The petition was filed by Bombay Environmental Action Group and arose out of the final judgment and order dated February 2, 2023 passed by the Bombay High Court. The Bombay High Court had permitted the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to cut 350 mangrove trees for 8-lane Vadodara-Mumbai expressway.

Order of the National Green Tribunal (Central Zone Bench, Bhopal) in the matter of Shree Degray Oran Temple and Oran Development Institute Vs State of Rajasthan & Others dated 19/04/2023.

The NGT quashed the appeal with regard to the grant of stage-I forest clearance dated March 25, 2021 and the interim approval for felling of trees and commencement of work dated June 22, 2021 granted to the Power Grid Corporation, Fatehgarh Transmission Ltd. for construction of 765KV/DC Fatehgarh 2 to Bhadla 2 transmission line.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of In re : news item published in the Newspaper The Hindu dated 02.10.2022 titled “Over 6,000 trees illegally cut for tiger safari project in Corbett Reserve, says FSI report” dated 17/04/2023.

The matter has been taken up suo motu by the Tribunal in the light of captioned media report to the effect that 600 trees have been illegally cut in Corbett Tiger Reserve in Kalagarh Tiger Reserve Division in Uttrakhand. It is further stated that the Forest Survey of India (FSI) was asked to assess the status of illegally felled trees.
