Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of Bombay Environmental Action Group Vs National Highways Authority of India & Others dated 24/04/2023.

The matter related to felling of mangrove trees for the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway. The petition was filed by Bombay Environmental Action Group and arose out of the final judgment and order dated February 2, 2023 passed by the Bombay High Court. The Bombay High Court had permitted the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to cut 350 mangrove trees for 8-lane Vadodara-Mumbai expressway.

Order of the National Green Tribunal (Central Zone Bench, Bhopal) in the matter of Shree Degray Oran Temple and Oran Development Institute Vs State of Rajasthan & Others dated 19/04/2023.

The NGT quashed the appeal with regard to the grant of stage-I forest clearance dated March 25, 2021 and the interim approval for felling of trees and commencement of work dated June 22, 2021 granted to the Power Grid Corporation, Fatehgarh Transmission Ltd. for construction of 765KV/DC Fatehgarh 2 to Bhadla 2 transmission line.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of In re : news item published in the Newspaper The Hindu dated 02.10.2022 titled “Over 6,000 trees illegally cut for tiger safari project in Corbett Reserve, says FSI report” dated 17/04/2023.

The matter has been taken up suo motu by the Tribunal in the light of captioned media report to the effect that 600 trees have been illegally cut in Corbett Tiger Reserve in Kalagarh Tiger Reserve Division in Uttrakhand. It is further stated that the Forest Survey of India (FSI) was asked to assess the status of illegally felled trees.

Affidavit by Chief Secretary to government of Haryana in compliance of directions of the National Green Tribunal, October 10, 2022. The matter is related to illegal mining in Aravalli hills of Gurugram, Mewat and Faridabad districts.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Kalu Ram Yadav Vs State of Rajasthan dated 12/04/2023.

Grievance in the application was against illegal operation of saw mills in tehsil Shri Madhopur, district Sikar, Rajasthan. It was stated that the saw mills were fed by illegally cut trees. There are about 20 sawmills which are non-compliant with the environmental norms. They do not have requisite consents.

Reply affidavit filed by TSTRANSCO before the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Mahesh Mamindla & Others Vs State of Telangana & Others dated 20/03/2023.

The report stated that the space available between the ORR and service lane is approximately 2 meters at Mrugvani forest area. A storm water drain is also existing between the ORR and the service lane. TSTRANSCO had erected an approximately 1,458 km length line of 400 KV DC line from Kethireddypally-Rayadurg through forest land.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT), March 13, 2023 directed a joint committee to look into the matter of the ecological destruction of Kufri, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh.

The committee comprising Divisional Forest Officer, Shimla, Regional Officer, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board and District Magistrate, Shimla would visit the site, collect relevant information and submit a factual as well as action taken, if any, report within two months.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Prem Prakash Prajapati Vs Project Director, PIU Sonipat and Others dated 06/03/2023.

Grievance in the application is against failure of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in complying with its environmental obligations in the course of construction of 8-lane highway No. 44 from Mukarba chowk to Singhu border, Delhi. It is stated that near village Khampur lot of dust is generated in absence of sprinkling of water. It is further stated that 161 trees have been cut in January 2021.

The National Green Tribunal, March 3 directed a joint committee to look into the complaint of Mangalore Smart City Corporation Limited (MSCCL) proposing to cut several trees in the process of widening of road from Nandigudda to Marnimakatte.
