Bangalore, Oct. 26 At a time when there is a perception that farming is not remunerative, this enterprising woman from Gowripura village of Hassan district in Karnataka has not only showed that farming can be as profitable as any other commercial venture, but also inspired several educated women to take up farming.

Over 70 lakes in Mandya, Shimoga and Hassan districts have been encroached upon by the land sharks. Several of these lakes have reportedly been encroached upon by local cartels and powerful individuals.

Yettinahole (Hassan district): The foundation stone for the first unit (200 MW) of the greenfield Gundia Hydel Power Project was laid by Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa at Yettinahole in the Western Ghats, about 18 km from Sakleshpur, on Saturday amidst tight security owing to threat of protests by environmentalists.
