In a significant development, Pakistan today withdrew its objection to construction of Uri-II and Chutak hydel power projects in Jammu and Kashmir.

At the Indus Water Commissioner-level talks here, the Pakistani side said it had no objection to the designs of the two power projects after the Indian side provided details of these, official sources told PTI.

The Assam Power Projects Development Company Pvt Ltd (APPDCL), a joint venture company on Tuesday signed two small hydro power implementation agreements with two companies. The projects are to be implemented under the public private partnership (PPP) mode and commissioned by April 2012.

Shimla: With the 1,500 MW Nathpa Jhakri project running in full swing and 10 major projects in hand, the Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) now plans to diversify into solar and wind power. It will also explore the possibility of setting up nuclear power plants in joint venture.

KOLLAM: Electricity Minister A.K.Balan has said that there will not be any energy crisis in the state even if there is no help from Union Government.

With the power requirements in Madhya Pradesh escalating to a massive 6,600 MW, the state is in dire requirement of additional sources of power generation.

The government has set aside upwards of Rs 30,000 crore for the upgrade and maintenance of almost 115 hydro and thermal power generating units, including some thermal stations commissioned as early as 1968.
