Blames skewed sex ratio for rampant trafficking of women into state for forced marriages

A report of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC) has blamed Haryana’s skewed sex ratio for large-scale trafficking of girls from other states for forced marriages and ‘bonded’ labour into the state.

The Haryana Health Department has issued guidelines and taken steps to prevent the spread of H1N1 swine flu as 31 cases have so far been reported from the state during the current year.

A spokesman of the department said here today that nine cases had been reported from Karnal district, followed by four each from Kurukshetra and Fatehabad, three each from Hisar and Sirsa, two each from Yamunanagar, Kaithal and Panchkula and one each from Rohtak and Ambala districts. Till yesterday, nine deaths had been reported from five districts-- three in Kurukshetra, two each in Karnal and Sirsa and one each in Hisar and Gurgaon.

Three patients admitted to hospital

Panic gripped the health authorities as eight job aspirants showed swine flu symptoms during a recruitment drive at the local Commando complex. Three of them were admitted to hospital after taking their blood samples. Swine flue symptoms were noticed in a job hospirant, Sadhu Ram, who had come to the hospital two days ago and a team of doctors reached the Commando complex for a medical checkup and took samples of eight others.

The green cover in Gurgaon, Mahendergarh, Kurukshetra, Karnal and Palwal would be increased with funds from the State Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA).
