JAMMU: Minister for R&B Abdul Majid Wani today said that recently the Central Government has given nod for connecting 1100 habitations under PMGSY in the State.

He was replying to a question of Javid Ahmad Rana regarding road connectivity in district Poonch. The Minister said that road connectivity in hilly and remote areas has been given top priority by the Government and several schemes under NABARD, PMGSY, State Plan and bad pockets in district Poonch are under execution and many of them have been completed.

The Potential Linked Credit Plan (PLP) for 2013-14 for Thanjavur district prepared by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) envisages a credit flow of Rs. 3,489 crore.

The plan was released by K. Baskaran, District Collector, at the bankers meeting on Thursday. S.T. Ravikumar, Assistant General Manager, District Development, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD); Raghu Vatsa Chari, Chief Regional Manager of Indian Overseas Bank; and Gnanavel, Assistant General Manager, Reserve Bank of India; were present.

Fragmentation of landholdings, decreasing crop yield and drought are the major challenges to the agriculture sector in Karnataka, Chief Secretary S V Ranganath has said.

NABARD has projected disbursement of Rs 3,499 crore in Goa for 2013-14 financial year which is 24 per cent higher than the previous year, a senior official said on Tuesday.

To boost small and marginal farmers, the Budget is likely to announce a credit guarantee fund for Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), with equity participation by government in such organisations. An FPO is typically a company comprising only farmers and producers but formed under the Companies Act. It is different from a cooperative society, though in most places these are called co-ops.

In a bid to improve road connectivity in remote villages located in Naxal-affected areas and bordering districts, the Cabinet on Thursday approved a special provision of R38,500 crore under Pradan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) to be allocated during the 12th plan period (20012-17).

Besides, the Union Cabinet also approved tweaking of PMGSY guidelines, where habitations with a population of 100 and above in the 82 Naxal-affected tribal districts would get roads under PMGSY. At present, the PMGSY covers habitations with a population of 250 persons and above in Naxal-hit tribal districts. More than 13,000 villages are expected to be covered under this special PMGSY allocation.
