Marginal farmers can better their condition by taking up organic farming, opined BRP Raitha Morcha vice-president Narayana gowda.

Speaking at a meeting of the farmers here on Saturday, he said that unbridled use of chemical fertilisers was robing fertility from the soil, and destroying earthworms, the friends of farmers.

The agri-experts at a function here on Wednesday stressed the need for cultivating various vegetables on a large scale through organic method to meet its demand and avoid various health hazards.

Chemical fertilizers are like alcohol

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has earmarked Rs 100 crore for the organic farming mission in the budget. The Chikmagalur district will get Rs 171 lakh and the taluk will get Rs 24.5 lakh, said Chief Whip D N Jeevaraj.

SAMBALPUR: The Agriculture Department has taken an initiative to promote organic farming in the district in a largescale.

As per reports, bio-agents like rhizobium culture, phosphate solubilising micro-organisms (PSM), azotobactor and azospirillum were used in more than 2000 acres of land during last kharif season and those gave encouraging results.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Udupi district Department of Agriculture Joint Director K Sangayya informed that Rs 24.5 lakh has been allocated for each Taluk of the district.
