The observation by Rajendra Pachauri, chair of the UN Inter governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), that people should have one meat-free day a week to cut greenhouse gas emissions has elicited more criticism than support in Britain.

New Delhi (PTI): Warning that the problem of climate change would be acute in the 21st century, eminent environmentalist R K Pachauri on Saturday asked the IITs to undertake research to overcome the dangers.

Speaking at the 39th convocation of IIT Delhi, Pachauri, who heads the Intergovernmental Panel (IPCC) on Climate Change, which won the Nobel peace prize last year, said the IPCC report has found that warming of climate system is unequivocal.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has constituted a six-member experts committee headed by Rajendra K. Pachauri, director-general, Tata Energy Research Institute, to look at an alternative alignment, avoiding the Ramar Sethu stretch, for implementing the Sethusamudram Shipping Channel Project.

He is the chairman of the inter-governmental panel on climate change, which shared the 2007 Nobel peace prize.

On Wednesday, Fali Nariman, senior counsel appearing for the Centre, informed the court of the constitution of the panel.

New Delhi,July 30: The Centre has formed a second expert committee on the Sethu-samudram project, asking it to examine an alternative alignment to avoid damage to "Ram Sethu". It will be headed by Dr R.K. Pachauri, Nobel Prize-winning head of the UN climate change committee and director-general of the New Delhi-based The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI).

Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) chairman, Mr Rajendra K Pachauri, will be visiting the city in the first week of August this year to discuss issues relating to global climate change, chief minister Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said today.
