The district administration has estimated the damage due to the recent heavy rains in the district at Rs 1.52 crore.

Heavy rains accompanied with gusting winds and hailstorm lashed the district for 12 days from April 13. The administration submitted its report to the government on April 27.

The early wave of Monsoon that caused heavy rain for the last fortnight creating flood has inflicted heavy losses on the farmers in Barpeta district. Though the damage is yet to be assessed but it is officially estimated that more than 25000 hectares of cultivation has been damaged.

The major sufferers are those farmers who cultivate early ahu paddy followed by onion and cashewnut.
