Between September 28 and October 3, parts of north Karnataka received six times more than its normal rainfall of 35 mm for the period, according to weather reports quoted by the Karnataka government in a preliminary assessment of the flood damage in the state.

Ahmedabad: The state may have received nearly 74 per cent of its annual rainfall, but it will have to depend heavily on Narmada and bore water to meet the drinking water needs of north Gujarat which has received less rainfall.

Having placed a request with the Prime Minister and Home Minister for a grant of Rs 10,000 crore under the National Calamity Contingency Fund (NCCF) for mitigating the flood damage across 15 districts of north Karnataka, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Monday announced plans for a padyatra across Bangalore to collect funds and relief material.
