THE final five kilometres to Ramnagar (Khokla), as the village is officially called, in Satna district of Madhya Pradesh has to be done on foot down a hill thick with shrubs and bushes. As we enter the village, eager eyes scan us for food or some other kind of livelihood support only to droop in disappointment once they learn that the wait has been in vain.

Bhopal, Sept 8: As many as 38 MoUs have been signed at the four investors' meets for establishing cement factories in Madhya Pradesh. Investment to the tune of Rs 73 crore is proposed to be made through these MoUs.

It may be mentioned that cement production in the state was a mere 15.39 million tonnes in the year 2002-03. Now the production rose to 18.90 million tonnes in April 2007. MoUs have been signed for expansion of these cement factories following which cement production will rise by 10.70 million tonnes per year.

The state government would establish 500 animal husbandry development centres in nine districts. These centres would be opened under a five-year project costing Rs 51 crore 95 lakh in Ratlam, Badwani, Dhar, Raisen, Sidhi, Satna, Panna, Ashok Nagar and Guna districts. The project would be conducted jointly by Veterinary Services and JK Trust. The state cabinet has okayed the decision to establish these centres on May 14 this year.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has urged the Central government for inclusion of Tikamgrh, Chhatarpur, Datia, Sagar and Satna districts in the special category under farm loan waiver scheme so that other farmers of this drought affected districts could also be reasonably benefited under the scheme. Chouhan has written a letter to the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh urging him to advise the Union Finance Ministry in this regard.
