As many as 329 villages have been electrified during the 10th Five Years Plan and in last three years of the 11th Five Years Plan in Madhya Pradesh. During the period, 11 thousand 415 electrified villages have been intensively electrified and electricity lines have been laid upto all the majaras and tolas there.

The State Government have allotted a sum of Rs one crore 56 lakh for hail-storm affected persons of Seoni, Dindori, Balaghat, Umariya and Chhindwada districts. Concerning Collectors have been asked to utilise the allotted fund under the norms of RBC 6-4.

The Satpura plateau regionof Central India is home of numerous herb species. The agro climatic conditions prevailing in the region provides an ideal habitat for the natural growth of variety of plants and herbs, which provide raw materials for pharmaceutical, phytochemical, food, flavoring and cosmetic industries.

The state government has sanctioned 12 minor irrigation schemes of four districts costing Rs 13.78 crore. All the four districts including Jabalpur, Seoni, Katni and Narsinghpur are in Jabalpur division. On completion, these schemes would bring 1328.50 hectare area under irrigation. The Water Resources Department has sanctioned six schemes of Jabalpur district, three of Seoni, two of Katni and one scheme of Narsinghpur district.

Amid reports of declining tiger population nationwide, there is still hope for wildlife lovers and forest officials in Madhya Pradesh as the number of tiger cubs is increasing. Madhya Pradesh is known as Tiger State, but the average number of tigers came down to 300 in the last census.

The farmers of the State are not availing full benefits of their hard work. There remains a big difference between the prices of foodgrains produced by them and the being sold in the markets. Middle men are enjoying the farmers' hard labour. According to a report, sharbati wheat was sold Rs 2200-2500 a quintal in Ratlam but did the farmers reap the profits of this sale. It is also a matter of consideration that if quality crops are produced then the farmers would benefit. Earlier, sharbati wheat was produced in the Bhopal division and adjoining places.

The Indian Institute of Forest Management has taken up a ITTO sponsored project on operationalisation of sustainable forestry development with community participation (following the C&I approach) in eight forest divisions in the states of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. This document is a pioneer attempt to workout sustainability index based on indicators of forest management units of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh states.

The Pench tiger reserve is named after the Pench river which flows from north to south through the park. This river constitutes the district boundary of Seoni and Chhindwara districts of Madhya Pradesh in the upper region and state boundry with Maharashtra state in the lower region. This area became the 29th tiger reserve of India in 1992.
