Visakhapatnam, April 2: Mercury has shot up generating heat wave conditions in coastal Andhra Pradesh. Except for the city and Kalingapatnam in Srikakulam district, temperatures have gone up in the entire coastal Andhra during the last 24 hours with Nellore recording a maximum temperature of 41 degrees Celsius.

It didn’t take much for the late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to promise free power to farmers. The gambit paid off too, as he returned to power in the 2009 assembly elections.

The fisherfolk from Sompeta expressed their protest against the proposed thermal power plant (2,640 MW) to be set up by the NCC group in the district at a meeting presided over by the Joint Collector, Mr E. Sridhar.

Sept. 16: A 12-member team representing the environment protection committee of Sompeta would meet the UPA chairperson, Mrs Sonia Gandhi and the President, Mrs Pratibha Patil, on September 20 to seek their intervention to stop setting up of thermal power plant near Sompeta.

halam in Khammmam and Adilabad.

BHUBANESWAR: Even as the north coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh - Srikakulam and Vizianagaram - are being ravaged by floods because of the swelling Nagavali and Bansadhara rivers, a fresh warning of heavy rainfall in the two districts has sent the people and officials into a tizzy.
