Pune Activists and residents living along Paud Road have alleged that in order to widen the stretch of road between Paud Phata and Chandani Chowk, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has chopped off no less than 40 trees of different varieties along the way.

In response to complaints filed by environmentalists in the City against demolition of a wall along the Lalbagh West Gate and felling of trees, the BBMP has booked a case against a tree felling and demolition company on Tuesday.

MUMBAI: Over 17,700 trees have been planted in the past one year in the cityand its suburbs, the BMC's Tree Authority told the Bombay high court on Thursday. The revelation came during the hearing of a public interest litigation filed by NGO Aawaz.

The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) and the Communication and Works Department (C&WD) on Tuesday resumed the controversial cutting of trees near the Lahore Canal to widen the main road near Thokar Niaz Baig.

The decades-old pine trees are under threat, as Capital Development Authority (CDA) still lacks any equipment to relocate large trees, impeding the construction of Zero Point Interchange (ZPI).

Greenery again got the axe on Tuesday, with official permission though. Trees of all species were felled at the Lucknow District Jail to make space for construction work.
