LUCKNOW: The rail and road traffic was badly hit in western UP on Monday when the farmers took to streets in protest against the low purchase prices of sugarcane fixed by the Centre and the state governments. The farmers blocked highways, damaged railway tracks, stopped trains and even set afire their crops in protest.

Bringing good news for wildlife enthusiasts concerned over dwindling big cat population in the country, at least 15 tiger cubs have been sighted in the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve in Uttar Pradesh, officials said.

The tiger census to be carried out in 2010 will see more camera traps being installed in the field to capture the movements of big cats. This, among other strategies, will be employed for census.
